house concept
A blank site and no brief, so the brief was written first. The idea came from a sketch of a pool raised into the pine canopy, and became a house that could rise into the canopy or settle among the trunks, presented on a plinth that when raised holds the pool and a jetty to the water. Earlier versions used storage containers and were abandoned in favour of what could be.

Process
The earlier scheme hung shipping containers in a frame of masts and stays, and it was taken a long way before it was let go: units alone and in an L around a glazed roof, a stair tower and a bridge to reach them, the joints between mast and beam drawn, and a model built. The hand drawings ran alongside it: a plan, sections, the structure, and views annotated with what the house was for.
